Govt. Medical College Jammu held its Annual Day Function in the College Auditorium on 13 th December 2007,
Hor'ble Minister for Health & Medical Education Pt.Mangat Ram Sharma was the Chief Guest and Sh. K.B Jandial Secretary Health & Medical Education Presided over the function.

Annual Report GMC Jammu 2007

Recapturing, the academic odyssey and achievement of the 36 year of inception of this college, with a feeling of elation, we all can vouch that Govt. Medical College, besides achieving its purpose pf serving the people
of the State, has achieved recognition nation wide as per its academic records. In these 36 years, our college has come to occupy a prominent place in the list of the premier Medical Colleges of our country.

Our constant endeavor to upgrade and improve the functioning of an Institute has borne result from time to time. Besides continuing with the training and teaching to the undergraduate MBBS Students, BDS Students from IGGDC, AMT School Students, BPT Students, Post graduate courses in already established disciplines is continuing, plus Post graduate courses have been added this year to the department of Microbiology and in the department of Transfusion Medicine.

Starting of PG courses in Forensic Medicine, Respiratory Medicine and Psychiatry is being intensively worked upon. At present the number of students pursuing the PG courses in our college is 201 and 92 post graduates have passed out successfully in this year. Our students have marked their record of excellence in all fields and have brought laurels to their alma matter. Besides academic achievements, where the undergraduate
result is more than 85% and PG result is more than 95%, our students have participated and excelled in sports and cultural activities held both within and outside the state. This year our students participated in PULSE-2007
held at AIIMS, New Delhi and brought laurels to the institution.

Our faculty and teaching staff have made great strides in the pursuit of academic excellence and research. This year there were more than 69 publications made in National and International Journals. Besides, our faculty members Dr. Ashok Gupta HOD, Pediatrics, and Dr. Vinay Rampal from department of Medicine have contributed chapters in recently published text and reference books. Dr. Jitender Singh, Deptt of Medicine has written books on Diabetes awareness and co-authored various text books on Diabetes.

As part of academic activities more than 21, Guest lectures, Symposia, Conferences, CME, workshops were hosted by various disciplines in the college. Department of Pediatrics hosted the PG Qui Intercollegiate and divisional round for 2007 and 20th undergraduate Quiz round.

During this year, the faculty not only attend national and international conferences and presented their research, they were also elected and nominated to various Boards and societies Dr. Bhupesh Khajuria was
elected as Gen. Secretary of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, Dr.Jatinder Singh was elected as all Indian Secretary of DIPSI. Dr. S.K.Gupta was nominated as Member MCI-J&K. It's a pleasure toannounce that Dr. S.K. Gupta and Dr. Jatindra Singh have been conferred MNAMS this year. Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Jammu has been elected as fellow of International Medial Sciences
Academy (FIMSA)and appointed as member of Board of Specialty of Hospital administration by MCI, Delhi.

Purchase and Installation of new vital equipment like fully Automated Analyzer for Biochemical tests at SMGS Hospital, Automated Bacterial Identification system -API in the department of Microbiology plus latest modal autoclaves in the department ,2 new ventilators and Multi Channel Invasive Cardiac Monitor ,up graduation of Heart Lung Machine in CVTS, Modern ECG AND Biofeedback Machine in Psychiatry ,USG in Gynae OPD and Harmonic Scalpel Machine in Gynae OT and Surgery OT, New Carm in ortho OT, air purifier in NIC!) and in bronchoscopy suite of CD Hospital, EMG & EP machine in Neurology ,Patient Warming system and multi channel monitor in ICU & OTs has further enhanced the supportive services. Installation of new CT Scan in Emergency is in process. Radiotherapy Department has been inducted with installation of branchytherapy equipment and making it a RCC is in progress.

Latest techniques in patient management have been introduced in Associated Hospitals. Modified anesthesia and modified ECT has been started in Psychiatry and Public, Health Lab has been established in PSM,
Intravenous .Thrombolysis has been started for DVT Patients in CVTS, Small incision cataract surgery and Pawar Implant in DCR surgery in Ophthalmology ,Non- invasive Ventilator in ICU,A spine clinic introduced
in ortho OPD, Nebulization inhalation therapy for management of patients

 

Ophthalmology ,Non- invasive Ventilator in ICUSA spine clinic introduced in ortho OPD, Nebulization inhalation therapy for management of patients with lower respiratory tract infection in pediatrics. Computerised
requisition has been introduced in SMGS Hospital. Augmentation and upgradation of Electric Sub station has been done. A Thalasemia Day Care Unit has been constructed in Paediatric.

Training of seven Medical Officers for Control Room functioning was conducted at AIIMS, New Delhi. A Control Room was set up in the Medical College where the trained Doctor is available round the clock and the control
room acts as a Helpline/Complaint cell for GMC, Jammu,

2 Batches, each of 15 nurses have been deputed to AIIMS ,New Delhi to update their skills in ICU, Emergency and OT. The third batch will be deputed from the first of January 2008 Similarly deputation of doctors from the discipline of anesthesia has been sanctioned and they will also be going in batches for advanced training in ICU to AIIMS.

Regarding Expansion of services and infrastructure, Evening clinics have been started in CD Hospital, where 40-50 patients are being treated dairy by me personally and this clinic is also open on Sunday morning. A 200 bedded additional pediatric wing in SMGS Hospital is under active construction and is likely to be completed in 2008.

Extension of Emergency block in GMC, Hospital has been started and the construction is in full swing.

Similarly work has been commenced at the spot - Silk factory plant earmarked for construction of Super Specialty Hospital. Construction of sarai for attendants of the patients has been commenced at Mahespura crossing.

An Intermediate Reference Lab. for culture sensitivity for T.B is underway in CD Hospital which will receive equipment for RNTCP Head Office at Delhi. This will be first of its kind in Jammu region.

A new parking lot has been constructed for staff vehicles. A new vehicle for faculty members for attending calls has been purchased 12 old vehicles not in use have been condemned and auctioned by state motor garage.

A new bus for use of the students is under fabrication by conversion of a truck not in use.

In the college library hte process of air conditioning is almost complete. In the next phase the auditorium will be taken up for air conditioning .The auditorium has been renovated, as you must have noticed, with new curtains and public adtlress system with cord less mikes. required and wish them all success in their future ventures.
