Subject : REGISTRATION OF THE PATIENTS IN SMGS HOSPITAL GOES HIGH TECH:

In SMGS Hospital of Govt. Medical College Jammu, the load of patients in its OPDs as well as indoor is increasing day by day. The work load in terms of number of patients reporting to its OPDs and number of patients admitted per day has become maximum when compared with any associated hospitals of the Govt. Medical college, Jammu. In order to streamline the registration process of patients, reporting to the hospital, the hospital administration has taken the lead to computerize the registration process. In the first phase, the OPD registration has been computerized. The patients reporting to OPDs will get the computerized registration cards with their name, age, sex, residential address, name of the department to which reporting, stamp of the doctor with his / her the name and designation and the OPD/Followup days. The main registration number as well as registration of the particular OPDs will also be provided at the same place, which will help to reduce the waiting time at different places i.e. in front of main registration and then in front of the Sub-registration area in the particular OPD. This software for SMGS Hospital has been developed by well established software company of the State “SAY Technologies”, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu provided to the hospital free of cost as a social initiative.
Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital informed that the OPD registration process has not only been streamlined but made more accurate. There were many complaints from the patients, their attendants and the office of Municipal Corporation regarding spelling mistakes while registration of the patients which was affecting even the medical legal work of the hospital. Now with computerization of the registration process, the daily registration of almost 1500 patients for different OPDs in SMGS Hospital, has been streamlined in an attempt has been made to minimise the errors. The software is so simple to operate that some class IV employees have been trained to operate the computers for registration.
The indoor admission will also be computerized for which the modalities have been worked out, hospital specific software developed, but due to shortage of manpower and computers, it could not be implemented simultaneously.
Dr. Rajinder Singh, Principal & Dean, Govt. Medical College Jammu have appreciated the efforts of the Medical Superintendent, his team and Surinder Sharma of M/s SAY Technologies, Jammu in computerization of the OPDs registration and assured of providing two Medical Record Technician and two computers and printers which is the only requirement for further computerization of the Registration of patients in SMGS Hospital.

On 11th May, 2007, a function was organized at SMGS Hospital, Jammu on the eve of Nurses day. Dr. Mumtaz Goni, Principal & Dean, Govt. Medical College, Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, she appreciated the nurses of SMGS Hospital for their hard work and dedication and appealed them to work with zeal and dedication. The Nurses week is celebrated w.e.f. 6th May, 2007 to 12th May, 2007. 12th May, 2007 International Nurses Day is celebrated on the eve of birth day of great visionary and noble lady Florence Nightingale. We must all work with same zeal and dedication as she worked and served the humanity.
In today’s function, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Jammu while speaking on the occasion, said that the function was celebrated to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Nurses working in this hospital.
All the faculty members, paramedical staff and class IV employees were present on the occasion to facilitate the nursing staff of SMGS Hospital.
The programme was coordinated & sponsored by Mr. Atul Gupta, Territory Manager, Johnson & Johnson Company Ltd, Delhi.

To Celebrate 67th foundation day of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital, the hospital is to carrying out different activities. A Nursing Training programme was organized in SMGS Hospital for the nurses in collaboration with M/s Johnson & Johnson Ltd. The session on the topie “The Incitation of Tight Glycemic control” was conducted by Mrs. Rosily George and Mr. Rohit. Nargotra. More than 40 nurses attended the session. The programmee was organized under the superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Dr. Robinder Khajuria, CMO and Dr, Shamma Parveen, CMO.

UPGRADATION OF GOVT. MEDICAL COLLEGE JAMMU ON THE PATTERN OF AIIMS DELHI UNDER PRADHAN MANTRI SWASTHYA SURAKSHA YOJANA

  1. On 22nd October, 2003, A team headed by Mr. Ashok Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, HSCC (India) Ltd., a public sector undertaking, New Delhi visited Govt. Medical College Jammu and had thorough discussions with the Principal, various HOD’s and the Medical Superintendents’ of Associated Hospitals. A Check lists was designed showing – existing services & additional services required for upgradation.
  2. Later a meeting with then Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education, J&K and the other higher officials of the department was held to examine the feasibility of the project.
  3. Initially in 2003, it was decided that the present Chest Diseases Hospital will be shifted to the outskirts of Jammu city for which the alternative place will be identified. About 40 kanals of land thus vacated will be utilized for proposed up gradation of GMC Jammu.A multi-storied super specialty hospital will be constructed in place of Chest Diseases Hospital which will be connected to Govt. Medical College Jammu through a subway or an over head bridge. The existing emergency services will be upgraded by providing a new block in front of the existing building and the Paediatric Surgery Department will be housed in SMGS Hospital alongwith the Paediatric Department, the space for which was also identified.
  4. The foundation stone was Laid on 25th January, 2004 by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India at Chest Diseases Hospital, Jammu
  5. A review meeting under the Chairmanship of Health Secretary, Govt. of India was held on 26-03-2004 in which the project report prepared by the HSCC India Ltd was discussed and certain modifications were suggested.
  6. A team of HSCC India Ltd comprising of Architects and medical professional alongwith Prof. Y.N. Rao, WHO Advisor visited Govt. Medical College Jammu on 26th and 27th May, 2004. The information required by them was provided and as per their suggestions modifications were made in the project report.
  7. Detailed modified version of project report prepared and submitted to Govt. of India in the month of June 2004, contained detailed requirements of upgradation of basic as well as Super Specialty departments.
  8. Later in the year 2006, Jenab Gulam Nabi Azad, Hon’ble Chief Minister, J&K visited the site at Chest Diseases Hospital and observed that CD Hospital land is only 45 kanals and housing old heritage eco-friendly hospital and staff family quarters, No scope of further expansion, CD Hospital requires suitable adjustment before demolishing the existing structure , New CD Hospital at alternate site would cost not less than 20 Crores (land and building), Super Specialty block at CD Hospital will cause further traffic congestion in and around GMC. So it was decided to look for alternate site for construction, keeping in mind the connectivity with the Medical College and future expansion.
  9. Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Hon’ble Health Minister visited the site on various occasions and in consultation with Hon’ble Chief Minister, several meetings were organised with the functionaries of JK Industries, Planning & Finance, Health & Medical Education Department, members of the Expert Committee, Chief Engineer CPWD, Town Planer, Chief Architect of the State.
  10. In November, 2006, Final decision taken with regard to construction of Multi-storeyed Super Specialty block to be constructed at Silk Factory, Reshamgarh Colony, after purchasing of land at Rs. 22.5 crores from JKI (Rs. 50.00 lacs per kanal) which was borne by State Govt.
  11. On the list of the machinery & equipments was submitted to the Director, Minsitry of of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India which were prepared in consultation with various head of the departments of Govt. Medical College Jammu and vetted by the expert committee of PGI, Chandigah appointed by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
  12. on 01.02.2007, a team Headed by Er. H.N. J Singh,Superintendent Engineer (P) CPWD, Chandigrah visited Govt. Medical College Jammu in connection with detailed discussion on the drawings of the proposed superspecialty block which were also discussed with the various Head of the Departments. The document containing the specifications of various machinery & equipments required for the upgradation of existing as well as proposed superspecialties which has been prepared in consultation with various head of the departments handed over to them for getting the approval of the expert committee of PGI, Chandigah appointed for this purpose by Govt. of India which is to be vetted from the expert committee before submitting it to the Director, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
  13. Regarding the State Share of Rs. 20 crores, an amount of Rs. 6.3 crore has been sanctioned for Paediatric surgery Department which is to be housed at SMGS Hospital and Rs. 1.00 crore has been kept for the upgradation of the existing emergency services. The amount has been kept at the disposal of JKPCC , the work of which is in progress.

2 .Dr.Yashpal Sharma, Medical Superintendent,S.M.G.S Hospital,Govt .Medical College Jammu has been elected as"Fellow" of the most prestigious "International Medical Science Academy ACAI (ISMA)" which is associate member of the council for International organization of Medical (CIOMS),Geneva.He has been authorized to write FIMSA as his additional degree.He will be awarded "Fellowship Scroll" at next Annual Conference of IMSA which is being held at Manipal,Karnataka in the month of November 2007. Dr.Sharma was awarded W.H.O Fellowship in Health Care Financing at Bangkok,Thailand by Minister of Health & Family Welfare ,Govt. of India in the Year 2005

To Celebrate 67th foundation day of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital, the hospital is to carrying out different activities in the month of March & April which includes patient satisfaction survey in the wards/ OPDs and other patient care areas, Employees Satisfaction Survey, Lectures on various topics of Hospital Management, Workshop on “Hospital Medical Records” to be conducted by Hospital Administration in collaboration with Jammu Chapter of Academy of Hospital Administration & M/s Johnson & Johnson Ltd. Training programmee of staff nurses on Theatre techniques including sterilization, Art of living classes, and Peadiatrics Quiz involving Post Graduates of Peadiatrics & Gynae Department. A competition for best maintained ward, OPD & other support services will be organized and the nominations for most punctual, popular & well dressed employee will be received and finalization of best performer will be done by a committee of judges appointed by the Principal Medical College Jammu.

The activities during this period will conclude before 4th May 2007 and on 5th May 2007 which is the 67th foundation day of SMGS Hospital, a function will be organized in the Auditorium of SMGS Hospital to celebrate the occasion and to felicitate the best performers in the different fields.
